• Ryan M. Tool, 18, of Newton was arrested on a probation violation at 12:40 p.m. Friday at 411 S. 11th Ave. W. He was taken to jail.

• A 13-year-old and a 15-year-old were charged with public intoxication after authorities observed three minors walking after curfew at 1:41 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of First Street North. One of the minors dropped a can of beer. Kelsi A. McDaniels, 17, of Newton was with the two minors but did not have any alcohol in her system. They were given a warning for the curfew violation. The case was referred to juvenile authorities.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
