Phyllis Kleinschrodt

Phyllis Kleinschrodt, 85, of Newton died on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Careage of Newton.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the First Christian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the church. Memorials to the First Christian Church may be left at the church during the visitation or service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Phyllis, the daughter of Phillip and Esther (Schaffer) Means, was born on March 3, 1927, in Keokuk, Iowa. She grew up in Keokuk, before moving to Atlantic, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. Phyllis was united in marriage with Keith Kleinschrodt on Nov. 15, 1944. They made their home in Keokuk for a short time before moving to Newton, Iowa, in 1950. Phyllis worked at JC Penney and Jack and Jill in Newton.  She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eastern Star. Phyllis enjoyed doing crafts and painting. She was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed going to the Iowa Speedway to watch NASCAR races.

Those left to honor Phyllis’s memory are her four sons, Ronald (Judy) Kleinschrodt of Angleton, Texas, Terry (Juli) Kleinschrodt of Grimes, Iowa, Brian Kleinschrodt of Lenox, Iowa, and John Kleinschrodt of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Lori, Heather, Krista, Jason, Justin, Vanessa, Amanda, Michelle, and Dustin; her 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beverly (Joe) Peterson of Florida and Linda (Doug) Foulkes of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; sister, Dorothy Kay; and brother, Donald Means.
