Family practice physician to join Newton Clinic later this year

Bantell will be seventh physician on staff who delivers babies

Newton Clinic will soon have a new face among its 14 doctors, two nurse practitioners and a physician’s assistant.

Skiff Medical Center CEO Steve Long announced Friday afternoon that Dr. Stephanie Bantell accepted an offer to join Newton Clinic. The Waterloo, Wis., native is expected to join the staff in mid- to late-summer of this year.

She will be one of seven family practice physicians who deliver babies at Skiff Medical Center. Dr. Malini Kethireddy says it will be great to have a fellow female family practice/obstetrics doctor on staff.

“We have a wonderful variety of physicians at the clinic – men and women, veteran doctors and newer graduates, varying backgrounds – and the more choices we can offer people, the better service we can provide,” she said.

Bantell is currently in her final year at the Mercy Family Practice Program in Janesville, Wis. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of New Orleans and attended Ross University School of Medicine.

“There are patients in the community who will be very pleased at the option of another young, female physician, especially in the area of obstetrics,” Long added.

Bantell is certified by the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and also in the areas of advanced life support in obstetrics and advanced cardiac life support. Her professional areas of interest include diabetes management, weight-loss medicine and cesarean deliveries.

She also offers intermediate Spanish speaking skills in the clinical setting.

“We are beyond delighted that Dr. Bantell selected Newton as the location to build her medical practice,” clinic administrator Mark Thayer said. “We have spent the last few years strengthening the high-quality OB care we offer to the families of Jasper County and Dr. Bantell’s arrival will bolster that even further.”

When she is not in the hospital or clinical setting, Bantell enjoys theatre, sewing, cooking and hiking. She and her husband, Adam, have just welcomed their first child, a son.
