First UMC to present guest speaker, leadership training

Bishop Julius Calvin Trimble, the Iowa Annual Conference Episcopal leader, will be the guest preacher at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton.

Central District Superintendent Rev. Dave Weesner and Field Outreach Minister Rev. Karen Nelson, also will be present.

All are invited to attend. There will be no 8:30 a.m. worship service that morning.

The public also is welcome to attend the Central District Leadership Training event from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church. Trimble will address attendees in the church sanctuary, and the keynote speaker, Dave Busiek, KCCI’s news director, will follow. The afternoon will include a number of small-group sessions covering a wide variety of topics on worship, leadership and ministry areas.
