During Newton’s Thursday double dual at Grinnell, freshman Cole Peters was taken out of the gym by medical personnel due to an apparent neck injury.

The injury occurred in the 113-pound matchup of the Cardinals’ second meet against West Marshall. Peters had his neck rolled back in an odd position and withdrew from the match. He was then taken out of the gym, but is expected to be fine.

“It was basically precautionary,” Newton wrestling coach Bill Reed said. “He had feeling in his fingers and there wasn’t any tingling or anything, so I think we were just being safe. His neck will probably be sore for a couple days though.”

Peters earned a 4-3 decision in his first match of the night against Grinnell.
