Newton Police Department
• Joshua D. Brown. 32, of Newton was arrested on an outstanding warrant at 1457 N. 11 Ave E. #4J at 2:37 p.m. Sunday. Police were called to investigate a domestic issue, and while investigating police discovered a warrant for Brown in Iowa County for failure to appear in court for operating while intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to jail.
• Craig A. Dawson, 46, of Newton and Slavco Anastasov, 45, of Warren, Mich., were involved in an accident near the off ramp of Interstate 80 at 2:24 p.m. Saturday. Dawson ran a stop sign and hit Anastasov. Dawson’s vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 damage, and Anastasov vehicle was not damaged. No major injuries were reported and no citations were given.
• Roderick C. Gainey, 22, of Monroe was arrested for public intoxication at 901 S. 13th Ave. E. Apt. 14 at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday. Gainey was staying in an outdoor shed to escape the cold for a few days. Neighbors called police to complain about the incident and police arrested him and took him to jail.
• Shawn A. Housley, 42, of Newton was arrested on outstanding warrants at 1014 First Ave. W. at 2:17 a.m. Sunday. His warrants include arson second degree, theft second degree, criminal mischief second degree and trespassing. Officers were informed that Housley was at the location and arrested him. He is currently in jail.
• Amy L. McDermott, 34, of Newton was arrested for domestic assault at 1453 N. 11th Ave. E. #2L at 9:34 p.m. Monday. A male victim told police that McDermott bit his left hand. Police arrested her and took her to jail.
• Thomas W. Nelson, 25, of Newton was arrested on an outstanding warrant in the 100 block of East Fifth Street South at 7:31 p.m. for failure to appear in court for operating while intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to jail.
• Christy A. Nida, 30, of Newton was arrested at 8:07 p.m. Sunday at 814 N. Seventh Ave. W. on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear to serve a four-day jail sentence. She was taken to jail.
• Daryen M. Rhone, 17, of Newton was arrested for theft after police discovered he stole an Xbox hard drive 5:47 p.m. Nov. 2. The victim told police that his hard drive was stolen and he gave a person of interest. Rhone’s plan was to sell it to GameStop.
• Justine G. Rivers, 18, of Newton was arrested at 4:24 a.m. Tuesday for public intoxication in the 1000 block Fifth Ave. E. Rivers refused sobriety testing and was taken to jail.
• Megan M. Walker, 27, of Newton was cited for failure to obey traffic control device at the intersection of Highway 14 and North Fourth Avenue West at 9:24 a.m. Sunday. Walker caused a two-car accident involving Benjamin A. Cromer, 26, of Marshalltown. Walker ran through a red light causing about $8,000 damage to her car and $6,000 to Cromer’s.
• Anthony J. Westphal, 25, of Newton was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to pay for child support at 1453 N. 11 Ave. E. #4D at 7:13 a.m. Sunday. He was taken to jail.
Prairie City Police Department
• Franceska Denise Bennett, 20, of Des Moines was charged with public intoxication after police were dispatched to the 400 block of East Fifth Street at 2:45 a.m. Dec. 19. Officers located Bennett walking in the area and determined that she was intoxicated. Bennett was arrested and placed in the Jasper County Jail.
• Ryan James Lang, 22, of Fairfield was charged with public intoxication and criminal trespass after police responded to a call of an intoxicated person at Goldie’s at 8:42 p.m. Dec. 6. Employees reported that the individual came in the back door and was in the kitchen. Upon arrival, officers found Lang outside with employees. He was found to be intoxicated but refused chemical testing. He was placed in the Jasper County Jail.
• Joseph Patrick Lemmert, 30, of Prairie City and Michaela Marie Terry, 30, of Prairie City were arrested for domestic assault causing injury for assaulting each other during the altercation at 405 W. South St. at 2:36 p.m. Dec. 19. Police were dispatched to resolve the domestic disturbance. Both subjects were placed in the Jasper County Jail.
• Ali Fay Rosenkranz, 19, of Knoxville was charged with possession of a controlled substance (Oxycodone), possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license suspended Dec. 21. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Oct. 24 when Rosenkranz was arrested for driving while license suspended. At the time, Rosenkranz was found to be in possession of an unknown white powder and a spoon used for heating illegal drugs. DCI lab results confirmed that the white powder was Oxycodone. Arrest warrants have been requested for Rosenkranz.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
