Helen VanderSchel, 100, of Davenport, formerly of Newton, died on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services — Utica Ridge in Davenport. 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Helen and her husband, Jay, farmed in Newton for many years.

Helen will be deeply missed by her daughter, Rayleen (Jan) Erickson of Princeton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Erik) Swanson of LeClaire, Amy Gates of LeClaire, Matt (Mandy) Erickson of Plano, Texas, Scot (Danelle) VanderSchel of Layfette, Colo., Chris VanderSchel of Boulder, Colo.; nine great-grandchildren, Jay, Gretchen, Justin, Zoee, Nate, Jack, Lucas, Chase, and Blaze; and two sisters-in-law, Effie Robison of Newton, and Laura Garrett of Adair, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jay; son, Jerry; grandson, Craig; and nine brothers and sisters.
