Carl Jacob Romans Jr.

Carl Jacob Romans Jr. passed away at Skiff Medical Center on Dec. 26, 2012. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials in Carl’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Carl, the son of Carl and Edna (Steinman-Malson) Romans, was born on Feb. 11, 1941. He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1960. Carl joined the Army in July of 1963 and served until July of 1965. Carl was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and was deployed to the Dominican Republic. He received good conduct medals and also marksmanship medals for the rifle range.

Carl worked at the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He also worked for Walmart for over 10 years. He was an avid Newton Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Carl was a past member of the Moose Lodge and in earlier years a member of a championship bowling team called the Roman’s Raiders. Through the years Carl was active in raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Those left to honor Carl’s memory are his daughter, Jeannie (Dave) Miller of Newton and Michael (Diane) Romans of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Mackenzie Rogers and Tori (Damion) Kaiser; step-grandchildren, Desiree Folsom and Joe Eddy; great-grandchild, Kayden Rogers; step-great-grandchild, Gavin Rowray; his sisters, Hazel Kleinendorst of Newton, Helen Ratliff of Newton, and Jane (Tom) Tesar of Tama; special friend and companion, Pat Lindly; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially the his special friends at the Rialto Barbershop.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don Malson and Sam Romans; sister, Beverly Duncan; and brother-in-law, Charles Ratliff.
