Newton Police Department

• Jeremy J. Jones, 20, of Newton was arrested at 5:46 p.m Tuesday at 1337 First Ave E. for failure to appear in court for a pretrial hearing for possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested and carried to jail.

• Randy S. Mendenhall, 49, of Newton was involved in a car accident with Tyler W. Hummel, 30, of Des Moines on Wednesday in the 2300 block of North 33rd Avenue East. Mendenhall was eastbound and attempted to turn into a parking lot. He hit Hummel’s vehicle and was cited for failure to yield. Damages to Hummel’s car were estimated at $200. Mendenhall’s car damages totaled an estimated $2,000.
