Former Daily News advertising manager named to newspaper association board

Stanley is owner-publisher of New Hampton Tribune, Nashua Reporter

Dave Stanley started his successful newspaper career nearly 30 years ago at the Newton Daily News. This week, he was recognized by his peers as a leader in the Iowa newspaper industry.

Stanley, owner-publisher of the New Hampton Tribune and Nashua Reporter was recently one of five nominees to serve a three-year term on the Iowa Newspaper Association Board of Directors beginning in February. He is expected to be voted in at the INA annual convention to be held Feb. 7 and 8 at the Downtown Marriott Hotel in Des Moines.

He began his career as an advertising sales representative with the Daily News in 1983. He became advertising manager in 1986, a position he held until 1996, when he left to become publisher of the Mitchell County Press-News in Osage.

In 2000 Lee Enterprises purchased the Press-News, Forest City Summit and Britt News Tribune, and in 2003 Stanley was named Associated Publisher for Lee’s North Iowa Media Group and as publisher of the Forest City Summit and Britt News Tribune. He purchased the New Hampton Tribune in 2009 and later acquired the Nashua Reporter.

The INA Nominating Committee recommended new terms for existing INA board members Kevin Johnson of Gannett Publishing Services in Des Moines and Jim Normandin of the Telegraph-Herald in Dubuque. Stanley will join board newcomers Mark Spensley of the Monticello Express and Geoff Schumacher of the Ames Tribune.

Stanley and his wife Lori have a son, Kyle, and a daughter, Kayla.
