Timothy Dean Stevens, 41, of Newton died on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center under the care of Skiff Hospice.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the memorial service at the Moose Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tim’s name may be left at the funeral home or the Moose Lodge.

Timothy, the son of Dale Stevens and Rebecca (Hawkins) Shafer, was born on Feb. 15, 1971, in Newton. Although he dealt with cancer most of his adult life, he did work at South Philly’s restaurant in Des Moines where he loved making sub-sandwiches. Timothy enjoyed spending time with his family.

Those left to honor Tim’s memory are his mother, Rebecca Shafer of Newton; wife, Nancy Stevens of Des Moines; his daughters, Ashley (Teddy) McConnell of Des Moines, Emily Hansen (fiancé, Brujon Aldrich) of Des Moines, and Crystal Hansen of Newton; grandchildren, Jonathan, Gabe, Wyatt, and Alexia Rose; his sister, Jennifer (Bob) Bruns of Colfax; brothers, Tony (Penny) Stevens of Newton and Joey (Mary) Stevens of Kellogg; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Shawn Stevens; and his many good friends, including Roger Good and Donnie Shepley.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Dale Stevens, in April of 2012 and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
