Halferty chooses Rozendaal for next Chief Deputy

Sheriff-elect John Halferty has announced that he has chosen Iowa State Trooper Duane Rozendaal to serve as Chief Deputy Sheriff of Jasper County, effective Jan. 1.

Rozendaal has served as an Iowa State Trooper for more than 25 years, said Halferty, and will bring his wealth of experience to the county in the new year.

"Duane has most recently been assigned to (State Patrol) Post 1, which includes Jasper County, and he also worked in the Poweshiek County area, so I've known him for several years," Halferty said in a phone conversation. "The law enforcement community in Jasper County knows him and thinks highly of him, he's well respected."

In addition to Rozendaal's experience in law enforcement, he grew up within Jasper County and maintains ties to some of the county's smaller communities, even serving on the Lynnville-Sully Community School District School Board.

"He grew up around the Lynnville-Sully area and is still involved in the community there," Halferty added. "He's just a well-rounded, well-respected, tenured law enforcement officer. His honesty and integrity cannot be questioned and I think that's important. He'll be a great fit for us and, while the State Patrol is losing one of their best, we're definitely gaining from it."

Rozendaal will take office as Chief Deputy Sheriff on the first of the year alongside Halferty.
