Kelley appointed to state budget committee

DES MOINES — House Democratic Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines appointed State Rep. Dan Kelley of Newton as the Ranking Member on the House Administration and Regulation Budget Subcommittee for the 2013 Legislative Session on Thursday.

“As a small business owner and REALTOR, Dan brings unique leadership skills to the Iowa House. In just two years, Dan has proven his leadership ability in the legislative process, which makes him an excellent choice to serve as ranking member of this important state budget,” McCarthy said.

The Administration and Regulation Budget Subcommittee sets the budget for various state agencies, including the State Auditor, State Treasurer, Secretary of State, Governors’ office, Ethics and Campaign Disclosure and the Dept. of Management.

In addition to serving as Ranking Member of the House Administration & Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee, Kelley also will serve on Environmental Protection, Agriculture, Ways & Means and International Relations.

“I look forward to continuing my leadership role on the Administration and Regulation Budget Subcommittee and working across the aisle to come up with solutions to keep the state budget balanced while providing important services for everyday Iowans,” Kelley said.

Kelley was elected to his second term to the Iowa House in November. The 2013 legislative session begins on Jan. 14.
