Robert ‘Bob’ Allen

Robert “Bob” Allen, 81, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his home in Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Westover Funeral Home.

Bob was born March 17, 1931, in Des Moines to August and Erma (Bruce) Allen. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Drake University and began a career as a CPA. While living in Newton, Bob was the joint owner of Thomas & Allen CPA firm. He then moved to Des Moines and was a franchise owner of Safeguard Business Systems.

Memberships included The Bridge Club (Bob was a Life Master), Elks Club and VFW. He had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and loved his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah (Carl) Danielson of Lincoln, Neb., and Diane (Larry) Plumb of Newton; step-sons, Dick Hansen of Bloomington, Ill., and Bill (Angela) Hansen of Des Moines; grandchildren, Krista Jackson, Chris Hansen, Chase Plumb and Beau Plumb; and seven great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Esau.
