Injuries reported in shotgun deer season opening

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — As Iowa’s shotgun deer season opened Saturday, a handful of Iowa hunters sustained injuries over the weekend, says the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

A 29-year-old man from Nora Springs was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in a foot while hunting deer in northern Iowa.

The Iowa DNR says Jeffrey Esser, of rural Mason City, was wounded around 4 p.m. Sunday while hunting in heavy brush southeast of Nora Springs in Floyd County.
