Senior Alex DeWitte recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mustang boys (3-0, 2-0 Heart of Iowa Conference) over the Rams. He had plenty of company in scoring and on the boards as fellow senior Michael Neff had 13 points and seven rebounds and sophomore Dillon Bruxvoort grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to go with seven points.

After a 21-21 tie at halftime, the Mustangs took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter, in which they shut the Rams out 12-0 to seal the victory.

The Mustang girls (1-3, 0-3) weren’t as lucky in their game, however, as they fell 46-45 in overtime. The teams were dead even at the end of the first, third and fourth quarters, but the Rams managed five points to PCM’s four in overtime to escape with the victory.

Junior Abbi Gilson had a huge game for PCM, recording 21 points for nearly half of the team’s total. Senior Kelsey Townsend pitched in eight points to go along with seven assists, junior Lexi Kain scored seven off the bench, sophomore Grace Telfer added six and senior Payge Edwards had three.

CMB basketball has tough weekend

The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter boys basketball team earned its first victory of the year on Saturday, but the Raiders’ boys and girls teams went a collective 1-3 in Friday and Saturday’s action.

The Raider boys (1-2, 0-2 Heart of Iowa Conference) defeated Colo-Nesco 55-33 for their first win on Saturday. Ten Raiders got in on the scoring, with sophomore Tommy Galloway leading the way with 13 and senior Zach Hartgers joining him in double digits with 11. Junior Zach Samson led the team with seven rebounds in the win, but sophomore Bryce Kemp, senior Aaron Haupert and sophomore Patrick Girard also chipped in five boards each.

After taking an 18-7 lead into halftime and holding Colo-NESCO scoreless in the second quarter, the Raiders managed 37 points in the second half. On Friday, they fell to Gilbert 70-57.

The Raider girls are still searching for their first win after falling to Gilbert 37-33 on Friday night and 63-28 to Colo-NESCO on Saturday. They will get their next shot at a win in Baxter against Nevada as part of a girl-boy doubleheader on Tuesday.
