Local artist Phyllis Garner greeted art lovers and friends Nov. 25 during the opening reception for her show of recent oil paintings. Her show is at the Centre for Arts and Artists at 501 W. Third St. N. in Newton and will be on display until Dec. 8. The CAA is open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. On Saturday, the CAA is open from 9 a.m. until noon. Garner grew up in Lincoln, Neb., and raised her four children in Des Moines. She relocated to Seattle, Wash., where she spent most of her professional life. She moved to Newton in 2007. Garner waited most of her life for the opportunity to work full time as a professional artist which she now does in the painting studio located in her home. For more information, call Linda Klepinger, CAA executive director, at (641) 521-3554.
