• A 12-year-old Newton boy was charged with fifth-degree criminal mischief after authorities responded to a report at 8:22 a.m. Nov. 6 of a student leaving Aurora Heights Elementary School. The boy was located in the 2900 block of First Avenue East. While officers were returning him to the school, the boy allegedly unscrewed the rear radar detector in the vehicle and swung it several times at the glass window separating the front and back seats. The boy also allegedly damaged wires in the vehicle. The total damage was estimated at $75. The boy was charged Friday and referred to juvenile court services.
