MAT Tumbling/Trampoline of Newton recently competed at its first meet of the 2012-13 season in Jewell.

MAT had a great showing of kids for the first meet, competing in power tumbling, Olympic trampoline and double-mini trampoline. The MAT team had an outstanding performance, beginning with the lower levels at the ages of 4 to 6, followed by great routines in the middle levels. Overall it was solid team performance from top to bottom in all events.

“Power tumbling is the best sport you could join, it allows me to really focus and put forth all of my effort to do what I love,” team member McKenna Winther said.

MAT also had one of its advanced level athletes receive special recognition for their outstanding performances. Morgann Eide qualified “elite” status on the double-mini trampoline. Elite status is the highest level one can achieve in the United States Tumbling Association sport of power tumbling, Olympic trampoline. Eide also is a member of the USTA Elite National team.

Next up for the MAT Tumbling and Trampoline Team will be MAT’s home meet, “A Holiday Hoorah!” which will be held in the Babe Harder gym at Marshalltown Community College on Dec. 8-9.
