Lady Hawks drop first game at English Valleys

Featuring a much younger lineup than in recent years, the Lynnville-Sully girls basketball team opened its regular season Friday night with a South Iowa Cedar League game at English Valleys, where the Hawks fell, 42-35.

Lynnville-Sully led 19-8 early on before the Bears closed the first half on a 9-2 run to pull within two points. The Hawks still led by two entering the fourth quarter, where English Valleys outscored them 16-7.

Lynnville-Sully shot only 27.9 percent for the game on 12-of-43 field goals, including making only 3-of-18 three-point attempts.
