James Michael ‘Bear’ McAnly

James Michael “Bear” McAnly, 60, passed away on Nov. 7, 2012, at Providence Hospice and Care Center East in Portland, Ore.

Born in Newton on Dec. 26, 1951, he was the son of L.C. Jr. and Catherine McAnly — a very joyful occasion for his parents during the holiday season. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1970 and attended the University of Iowa.

Jim moved to Oregon in 1972 and had resided there since. He was very witty, generous and had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his sisters, Mary and Ann, and a brother, Tom. He had many life-long friends, including Dave “Albert” Vermillion of Portland, as well as many friends he made along the way.
