DMACC coat drive brings in 2,000 items

The 2012 Giving Warmth Coat Drive was another success, according to organizers. Almost 2,000 pieces of warm clothing were collected, including coats, stocking caps, mittens, gloves and scarves.

In October, Des Moines Area Community College, KCWI 23, Community Choice Credit Union, Des Moines Heating and Cooling, Iowa Health-Des Moines and Iowa Health-Physicians and Clinics collected warm weather apparel.

The new and slightly used coats, stocking caps, mittens, gloves and scarves were distributed to area shelters and other agencies that work with families in need.

This is the fifth annual Giving Warmth Coat Drive. DMACC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapters helped distributed the donated items.

As Iowa’s largest two-year college, DMACC offers 153 programs, certificates and transfer degrees, annually serving more than 75,000 credit and noncredit students on six campuses.
