The Newton YMCA is planning two family-friendly fitness events heading into the holiday season.
The first is the Y's second annual Turkey Trot Nov. 17. The 5K road race is open to all ages with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. Top finishers in each age group will receive a frozen turkey, and top male and female finishers will receive fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner. Each entrant will receive a dri-fit T-shirt. Cost is $20 before Friday and $30 after Friday. Registrations are accepted at the Y or at www.active.com.
The Y also is hosting a pre-Thanksgiving dinner workout. All are invited to attend the annual Turkey Day Workout from 6:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22. Cost is $15 for Y members and $25 for non-members prior to Friday. Fees after Friday are $20 for members and $35 for non-members. Drop-in childcare is available for $2 per child. Each registrant will receive a t-shirt.
