• Justin L. Maher, 35, of Newton was cited with unsafe backing after backing out of a driveway at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Sixth Avenue East and striking a parked vehicle owned by Jerald W. Nelson of Newton. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $700 to Nelson’s vehicle and $100 to Maher’s vehicle.

• Dillon R. Morton, 19, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended and Katie L. Lincoln, 18, of Elkhart with allowing an unauthorized person to drive after authorities stopped them at 4:28 a.m. Sunday in Union Cemetery. Both were released to appear in court at later dates.

• Dawn M. Goode, 41, of Des Moines was cited with operation without registration after authorities initiated a traffic stop at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday at Highway 14 North and North 23rd Avenue West.

• April A. Wilcox, 33, of Newton was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday after authorities initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of North 19th Avenue East and determined she did not have a valid driver’s license. Wilcox was charged with driving while license suspended and cited with no insurance and operating without registration.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
