On Tuesday, Oct. 23, five Newton Senior High School seniors gathered to participate in an online quiz bowl. The Iowa Knowledge Bowl has been given to students in the Heartland Area Education area since 1981 and consists of 200 multiple choice questions from all areas of the curriculum.

The Newton team consisted of Britney Samuelson, Samantha Schwarz, Tim Stammeyer, Lauren Henderson and Katie Hinshaw. Although the students did not qualify for one of the top six spots to go on to the finals at Merle Hay Mall, the consensus was that their strategy for communicating during the test constantly improved while they were participating, that they learned some new information from the test and would like to participate in another quiz bowl in the near future.

Margaret Caldwell, the team’s sponsor for the Iowa Knowledge Bowl, will invite them and other interested students to participate in the Knowledge Master Open in early December.
