Drake women cruise past Upper Iowa in exhibition

DES MOINES (DU) Kyndal Clark’s game-high 25 points and Carly Grenfell’s 20 points helped the Drake women’s basketball team cruise to a 81-51 win over Upper Iowa in its final exhibition contest.

The Bulldogs were hot from the field tonight, hitting 50.8 percent of their shots from the field (33-of-65) and going 7-of-15 from the three-point line (46.7 percent). Junior guard Alyssa Marschner had a game-high nine assists.

The Bulldogs outscored the Peacocks 44-18 in the paint and 18-4 on fast break points. Drake turned the ball over just 14 times to Upper Iowa’s 24, forced 15 steals and blocked 11 shots.

Grenfell paced the Drake offensive attack in the opening half with 18 points, knocking down 7-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 behind the three-point line. She added three rebounds.

Whitney Kieffer led the Peacocks with 21 points on the night and grabbed three steals. Olivia Meier was their top shooter, hitting three three-pointers and finished with 12 points.

Morgan Reid had an efficient game, scoring eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, dishing out four assists, blocking three shots and grabbing three steals.

The Bulldogs overpowered the Peacocks in the first half with a 20-12 rebounding advantage and outscoring them in the paint, 26-14.
