Bette L. Couch

Bette L. Couch, 73, of Newton passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center, under the care of Skiff Hospice in Newton.

A celebration of life memorial service for Bette will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials are being designated in Bette’s name and may be left at the funeral home.

Bette, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. DeWitt, was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Decorah, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Waukon High School and attended Luther College.

On Nov. 8, 1971, in Galena, Ill., Bette was united in marriage with Richard Couch. She had devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church a volunteer for Skiff Hospice and a member of the Republican Party for 25 years. Bette was a kind and warm hearted lady, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor Bette’s memory include her husband, Richard Couch of Newton; daughters Brooke Chambers of Newton, Ann Williams and son-in-law Allen of Newton; son Bobby Lyman of Lantana, Fla.; grandchildren Gatlin Chambers, Aniston Chambers, Clinton Williams, Leif Williams, Jacob Williams, Joseph Williams, all of Newton, Michael Garett, Jenny Lyman both of Boynton Beach, Fla., Sara Lyman of Lake Worth, Fla., and extended family member Keith Weter of Newton.

Bette was preceded in death by her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C. C. DeWitt.
