Supervisors to consider amended Veterans Affairs Ordinance

Published: Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 11:29 a.m. CDT • Updated: Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 11:30 a.m. CDT

At Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Jasper County Board of Supervisors, a revised Veterans Affairs Ordinance will be considered.

As has been previously reported, the county’s ordinance had not been updated in many years, technically making many veterans who have returned from war in the past decade ineligible for general assistance. An updated Veterans Affairs General Policy also has been drafted for the supervisors’ consideration.

The Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission approved the changes at its Sept. 26 meeting.

In other business, the board will:

• Discuss the Newton Correctional Facility’s work program with Terry Mapes, and

• Review the Recorder’s monthly report.

The meeting will be held in Room 301 of the Jasper County Courthouse, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
