Adopting a new pet from the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society should never be a 50-50 proposition, as those new home-seeking animals are best served by owners who are 100 percent committed to their safety and care.
However, when it comes to generating important operational revenue for the shelter, the time-tested 50/50 raffle is a “purrfect” way to raise critically-needed funding to help animals get well.
Each month the JCARL takes in approximately 100 cats and dogs. While that in it itself poses many unique challenges for shelter staff in caring for and finding new homes for these animals, many of them require immediate medical attention when they arrive because of injury or neglect.
During this holiday season, the JCARL will be hosting a Christmas 50/50 drawing, earmarking its 50-percent share of the proceeds to take care of pets with health issues. Of course, the remaining 50 percent from all collected ticket sales will be awarded to the winner — who will be determined through a random drawing on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Tickets are now available for purchase at the shelter office or at the Newton Daily News through Dec. 14 at a cost of $1 each or six tickets for $5.
‘Smitten with Kittens’
Having taken in a very large number of kittens this fall, the shelter will be conducting a special “Smitten with Kittens” adoption event from now until the end of the year. In an effort to find these cuddly little cuties safe and loving homes for the holidays, adoption fees for all kittens (six months and younger) have been reduced to just $40 (normally $80). This discounted price includes altering (spaying or neutering), initial vaccinations and deworming, making it a tremendous bargain that neither Santa nor Black Friday can deliver.
Adoptable Pets at Newton Retailers
The JCARL will be conducting a November pet adoption event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Theisen’s, Farver True Value and Earl May Nursery and Garden Center. Kittens will be on display at Pet Kingdom from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
