Five arrested in Tuesday night drug bust

According to a press release from Lt. Aaron Groves of the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, five people were arrested Tuesday night as the result of the execution of a search warrant and raid on a home on Newton's west side.

"The MINE Task Force executed the search warrant in response to numerous complaints of drug activity and information regarding guns being used/displayed in and around the residence by multiple individuals," Groves said. "The Jasper County Sheriff's Office SERT Team and Newton Police Department's tactical team assisted with the execution of the search warrant."

Numerous drug related items were reportedly found inside the residence at 1502 N. Second Ave. W. in Newton at approximately 10:05 p.m. Tuesday. In addition to methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription pills and assorted drug paraphernalia, officers also confiscated additional materials that are now awaiting chemical analysis at the Division of Criminal Investigation Lab in Ankeny.

A loaded handgun also was found at the scene. Arrested at the scene were: Lance Jones, 21, of that residence; Joshua Stubbe, 25, of Newton; Erin Abrams, 21, of Panora; Megan Daniels, 31, of Newton; and Joshua White, 28, of Newell.

Jones faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor; three counts of possession of prescription medication, a simple misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Stubbe, Abrams and Daniels each face a single charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. All four were transported to the Jasper County Jail.

White faces charges of possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; passing contraband, a Class D felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia. White had arrived at the scene, allegedly in possession of illegal narcotics. Once transported to the Jasper County Jail, he was discovered to be in possession of a syringe, as well.
