Newton Park Board recommends fee changes

The Newton Park Board made a number of park fee changes for the 2013 season. If approved by the Newton City Council, the changes would take effect on Jan. 1.

Shelter house fees at Maytag and Woodland Park would increase from $20 to $30 for the West Shelter, and to $25 for the Woodland Park, for half day rentals. Half-day rental at the Maytag Bowl would increase to $50, and to $225 for a special event.

At Westwood Golf Course, the fee for 18 holes on the weekend will increase to $29. Also, moderate increases are recommended for nine holes on the weekend, as well as the 10-punch pass for 18 holes and nine holes. Cart fees will go up slightly, including an increase in the yearly cart rental from $508.25 to $535.

Golf membership fees for couples could rise from $923 to $970, and for an adult single from $568 to $600. Senior couples fees could go up to $873, and a senior single fee could go to $540. Youth fees 21 and under could go from $171 to $250.

At the Maytag Pool, a single season pass may increase from $50 to $55, and evening pool parties may go from $225 to $275. Pool hours will remain the same as this year until Aug. 1, 2013, when the pool will close at 5 p.m. each night.

The Newton City Council will consider the changes at its Nov. 19 meeting. All changes must be approved by the council.
