Beggar’s Night events tonight

The Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce expects more than 40,000 pieces of candy to be distributed during the annual downtown trick-or-treating event tonight.

Chamber Member Jason Webster of E-Clips Hair and Tanning has taken the lead on rallying the community to participate in the event.

“We have over 50 businesses and community groups passing out candy,” he said. “It should be a fun time for the kids.”

Other Beggar’s Night highlights tonight include trick-or-treating from 5 to 8 p.m. at Skiff Medical Center, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Newton Village and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Park Centre, Newton Senior High School and around town. Newton Health Care also will have a haunted house from 6 to 8 p.m., and the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E., will have “trunk-or-treating” in the church parking lot from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to enjoy hot cocoa and get a temporary tattoo.
