Karen Sue Patterson, 71, of Newton died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Services will be held at a later date. Memorials to Progress Industries or the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.  Sue, the daughter of Elvin “Mike” and Wilma (Cooper) Stringer, was born Jan. 8, 1941, in Cheyenne, Wyo. She graduated from Newton High School in 1959. Sue was united in marriage with Teddy E. “Ted” Patterson on March 18, 1962 in Newton. She had worked at the Jasper County Animal Rescue League for several years. 

Those left to honor Sue’s memory include her three children: Michael (Helene) Peterson of Schuylerville, N.Y., Darci (Mike) Fairchild of Runnells and Brian (Janine) Patterson of Cedar Creek, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and her two sisters, Peggy (Steve) Guthrie of Davenport and Jeanie (Clarence) Hughes of Tempe, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted Patterson on Sept. 25, 2012; and a son Larry in 1995.
