Larry B. Ballard

Larry B. Ballard, 63, of Newton died on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.  The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the funeral home. Memorials in Larry’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Larry, the son of Orville and Bonnie (Campbell) Ballard, was born on Dec. 10, 1948, in Des Moines.  He grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School.  Larry served his country in the U.S. Navy. Larry was united in marriage with Phyllis Arlene McWhirter on June 27, 1980, in Newton.  They made their home in Newton. Larry had been retired for many years.

Those left to honor Larry’s memory are his wife, Phyllis of Newton; his sons, Timothy Ballard of Newton, William Cupples of Newton and Tony (Kim) Cupples of Ashland, Mo.; his daughter, Shannon (Duane) Musser of Williamsburg; his grandchildren, McKenzie and Colton Musser and Scott, Drake, Dillon, and Destiny Cupples; his great-grandchildren, Alex Cupples and Emily Kain; his mother, Bonnie Ballard of Ankeny; his brothers, Lynn (Deb) Ballard of Cedar Rapids and Lee (Linda) Ballard of Ankeny; and his dog, Foxy Lady.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Ballard.
