• Darren S. Lehrkamp, 19, of Newton was charged with interference with official acts and public intoxication after officers observed three males at 10:57 p.m. Friday Newton Senior High School. When approached, Lehrkamp ran away, but was later located. He had an odor of alcohol and bloodshot eyes and registered a blood alcohol level of .232. Lehrkamp also was wanted on an Adel police warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Caleb L. Nowak, 22, of Blue Earth, Minn., was cited for following too closely at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday after traveling on the Interstate 80 exit ramp at mile marker 164 and striking the rear of a vehicle driven by Kyle B. Mass, 28, of Newton, who was stopped at a stop sign. Damage to Nowak’s vehicle was estimated at $200, and damage to Mass’ vehicle was estimated at $1,000. No injuries were reported.
• Clinton V. Robinson, 39, of Newton was charged with public intoxication at 9:21 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of West 11th Street North after officers were called to that location in reference to a fight in progress. Robinson has six previous public intoxication convictions. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Sabrina L. Stafford, 15, of Newton was exiting a parking lot at the 400 block of First Avenue East at 2:56 p.m. Wednesday when her vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Delores D. Dovoll, 47, of Hamilton. Stafford was cited for failure to yield upon entering roadway, and damage to her vehicle was estimated at $400. Damage to Dovoll’s vehicle was estimated at $500. No injuries were reported.
• John P. Sumner, 27, of Kellogg was charged with public intoxication at 5:14 a.m. Saturday when officers were called to the 700 block of North Second Avenue East in reference to an unwanted male at the residence. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Jarvis A. Wells, 34, of Ankeny was arrested at 11:48 a.m. Thursday on two outstanding warrants, one for a violation of a no-contact order for having contact with a female victim in the 600 block of East Second Street South and a Polk County warrant for failure to appear for a pre-trial conference for fourth-degree criminal mischief. Wells also was wanted for allegedly assaulting a female victim at 12:59 a.m. Oct. 16 by grabbing the victim by the arm, cutting her, taking her cellphone and spitting in her face. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Anna K. Winchester, 36, of Newton was charged with operating while intoxicated after officers observed her vehicle swerving and driving slowly at 2:03 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of South 11th Avenue West. She refused chemical testing and was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Alexander R. Williams, 15, was charged with carrying a weapon and second-degree burglary after officers were called to 1782 W. Fourth St. N. at 4:45 Saturday when a resident reported he was threatened with a knife. Williams was located later and referred to juvenile authorities.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
