• Ashley N. Drake, 22, of Newton was charged with domestic assault at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday when officers were called to 310 E. Fourth St. N. #3 in reference to an argument. The female victim was scratched on her neck. Drake was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Nicholas C. Hartgers, 25, of Lynnville, was arrested at 8:02 a.m. Wednesday when officers were called to the 600 block of East 16th Street North for a suspicious person. Hartgers was found to be wanted on a Jasper County warrant for criminal mischief third degree, and failure to appear for a pre-trial hearing on an original charge of kidnaping, assault and driving while suspended. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jennifer L. Rhone, 25, of Newton, was charged with operating while intoxicated (second offense) when officers observed a vehicle she was driving was swerving and crossing the center line in the 800 block of First Avenue East at 2:37 a.m. Oct. 13. She was released to appear.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
