Cards beat Bombers 27-6, are headed to playoffs

HUXLEY — It's been a long five years, but Newton football is back in the postseason.

The Cardinals earned their fourth-straight win Friday night — a 27-6 domination of Ballard to finish the regular season with a 5-4 overall record and 4-2 in Class 3A District 4. With the win, Newton advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

The Cardinals will make a long road trip Wednesday night to take on District 3 champion Humbolt (6-3) in the first round on Wednesday.
