Time change for candidate forum; one added for State Senate candidates

The League of Women Voters of Jasper County has announced a time change to the Candidate Forum scheduled for Oct. 22, and has added an additional forum for the following week.

Bonnie Pitz, moderator for the Candidate Forum said the changes were made to accommodate those attending the forum who wished to view the televised presidential debate scheduled for Oct. 22 as well.

The forum will begin at 6 p.m. in the Newton City Hall Council Chambers with the candidates for Jasper County Sheriff, John Halferty and Steve Hoffman, first on the agenda, followed by Supervisor candidates Denny Stevenson and Doug Cupples at 6:30 p.m., the State Representative House District #41 candidates, incumbent Dan Kelley versus Gabe Swersie at 7 p.m. The evening will conclude with the County Auditor candidates, incumbent Dennis Parrott and challenger Laurie Nelson.

The forum will include statements from each candidate, and a question and answer period from the audience.

Then, on Oct. 29, the Senate District #14 candidates, Dick Schrad and Amy Sinclair will meet in the Newton City Hall Council Chambers at 7 p.m. for a similar debate.

The forums will be televised live on box channel 12, channel 85, or channel 121.12. KCOB Radio also will provide live streaming on www.myiowainfo.com.
