• Dennis U. Rice, 36, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts, after officers were called to 207 S. 15th Ave. W. at 1:37 p.m. Sunday in reference to a subject out of control at that residence. A search of Rice turned up a baggie with methamphetamine residue. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Holly A. Thomas, 26, of Newton was cited with leaving the scene of an accident and striking fixtures following a single-vehicle accident at 7:57 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of West Eighth Street South. A witness observed Thomas leaving the Git-N-Go parking lot and hitting a street sign, causing an estimated $300 damage to the sign. Authorities located Thomas and cited her in connection with the accident. No one was injured.

• Carol J. Wearmouth, 57, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her vehicle at 5:24 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of East Fifth Street South for speeding and determined her license had been suspended. The Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Drug Task Force also had a warrant to search her vehicle. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Pamela K. Willemsen, 57, of Grinnell was issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign after traveling north on East Fourth Street North at 12:06 p.m. Wednesday, turning west on North Eighth Avenue East and colliding with a vehicle driven by Barbara D. Bradley, 43, of Newton, who was eastbound on Eighth Avenue. No one was injured. Authorities estimated the damage at $2,000 to Bradley’s vehicle and $800 to Willemsen’s vehicle.

• Eugene C. Wood, 38, no address, was charged with child endangerment after he turned himself in to Newton police at 8:35 a.m. Friday. Wood had been baby-sitting a 2-month-old female and the mother later found bruises on the child’s buttocks. Wood was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
