Betty V. Moxley
Betty Virginia Moxley, 93, the daughter of William James and Thelma Edith (Thomas) Trotter, was born May 23, 1919, in Newton. A lifelong resident of the Newton area, she graduated from Newton Senior High School.
On March 25, 1939, Betty was united in marriage with Norman LeRoy Moxley in Montezuma, Iowa. They moved to Newton, where Norman was employed by the Parsons Company. In 1942, a daughter, Lana, was born. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jasper County Historical Museum, Skiff Hospital Auxiliary, Methodist Ladies Church Circle, the Ladies’ Elks and the YMCA. Betty enjoyed travelling throughout the country, but especially in the Southwest, after Norman retired in 1985. She loved steak on the grill on Saturday nights after a round of golf with Norman, and peanuts on ice cream. She was a devoted grandmother who enjoyed playing games, dancing and any opportunity to laugh with family and friends. She always had a smile and a giggle, and a positive outlook on life. Her great-grandchildren will miss the sweets in her candy jar.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at a later date. Memorials in Betty’s name can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
