Newton football beats Saydel 35-0 in weather-shortened game

It was a bizarre and bittersweet Senior Night for the Newton Football team Friday night.

Playing in what could be their final home game, the Cardinals routed winless Saydel 35-0 in the first half at H.A. Lynn Field before lightning caused the game to be eventually called before it even got to halftime.

It will go down as a 35-0 win for the Cardinals, making it three straight wins since a lopsided loss at Grinnell. Newton is now 4-4 on the season, and 3-2 in Class 3A District 4.
