Newton Police


• A 12-year-old Newton female was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities received a complaint of a stolen red tricycle at 8:01 p.m. Oct. 2. On Wednesday, police received information about the location of the tricycle, and it was located at the suspect’s residence. The girl was charged and referred to juvenile court services.

• Rodney D. Dobbs, 48, of Newton was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear in court for a review hearing on failure to pay child support after authorities located him in the 400 block of South Second Avenue West. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Victoria L. Smith, 35, of Newton was charged with serious domestic assault after authorities responded to an altercation at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday at 502 First Ave. E. #3. Smith was charged for allegedly assaulting a male victim, including clawing and biting him, and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Sheriff’s Office

• Christopher L. Hussman, 26, of Indianola was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities stopped him at 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Highway 14 South for a traffic violation. After receiving consent to search the vehicle, authorities located a glass smoking pipe. Hussman admitted the pipe was his, and he was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kayla R. Murrell, 25, of Grimes turned herself in at 22:47 p.m. Tuesday at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office on warrant for failure to appear in court for a pre-trial conference on an original charge of driving while license suspended. She was placed in jail.

• A pink girls bike was found Sept. 12 in the 6000 block of South 76th Avenue West. To identify and claim the bike, visit the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
