Teacher urges voters to support Kelley

To the editor:

I am writing this letter in support of Dan Kelley who is running for State Representative for a second term. One of the main reasons why I support Dan Kelley is because of his support in education.

I am a special education teacher in the Grinnell Newburg School District. I reside in Newton and my son goes to Peck Childcare Center for preschool. I have recently picked up a second job as a waitress to help pay for my son’s preschool.

I teach special education to kindergarten, so I know the importance of preschool education and am pleased that Kelley feels the same. I know that children who attend preschool are more likely to graduate from high school and continue on to college.

I have learned that these children are less likely to need public assistance when they are adults. I see on a daily basis the difference between students who have attended preschool and those who have not when they reach the elementary level.

Kelley understands as well. He believes that every child should get this opportunity. He knows as well as I how hard it is to pay for preschool and how difficult it  is for a single mother to have two jobs to make ends meet.

Kelley’s focus is to ensure that our schools prepare our kids for the jobs of tomorrow. Vote for Dan Kelley on election day.
