• Timothy J. Kessler, 33, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a complaint at 11:29 p.m. Friday of an intoxicated person at 1782 W. Fourth St. N. #1. Kessler was located a short distance away, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes. A Datamaster test indicated a blood alcohol content of .092. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Lonnie F. Martin, 56, of Newton was charged with public urination after authorities responded to a complaint at 8:59 p.m. Thursday at Hy-Vee in Newton. Witnesses gave authorities the suspect’s license plate number, and Martin was located in the 800 block of First Avenue West and charged for allegedly urinating in public. He was released to appear in court.

• Gregory A. Mitchell, 18, of Newton was charged with serious domestic assault after authorities responded to a complaint of an altercation at 3:11 p.m. Sunday at 715 First St. S. in Newton. Mitchell was charged for allegedly punching a male victim in the face and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Justin M. Mowery, 23, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 1:06 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of North Third Avenue East. He was released to appear in court at a later date.

• Michael P. Sanderson, 35, of Knoxville was charged with driving while license barred after authorities stopped him at 3:02 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of East Fourth Street North for having an inoperable license plate light. He also was cited for improper use of registration, issued a warning for the light and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Terrell S. Sissoko’Bakary, 18, of Des Moines was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court for sentencing. He was picked up by Des Moines police and transferred into the custody of Newton authorities at 9:19 p.m. Friday. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kirkland Tompkins Jr., 32, of Des Moines was charged with fourth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting report at 3:55 a.m. Oct. 2 at Walmart. According to a police report, video surveillance showed several subjects leave the store with a cart containing a baby stroller and other items, which totaled $285.76 in value. Witnesses told police the suspects left the parking lot heading toward Interstate 80. Following an investigation, Tompkins was located and taken to the Jasper County Jail. The incident remains under investigation.
