Dorothy Johnson

Dorothy M. (Becker) Johnson, 89, of Newton died on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at her home at Park Centre in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton officiated by the Rev. Merle E. Smith of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home.

Memorials to The University of Iowa Foundation (for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center) may be left at the funeral home. Memorials also may be mailed to the funeral home. Please add, Attn: Johnson Family on the envelope.

Dorothy was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed quilting; crocheting, gardening, canning, jig saw puzzles, the Burger King Coffee Group, the Iowa State Fair, camping, the Knoxville camping group, Bluegrass Festivals and going to the Midwest Old Threshers.

Those left to celebrate Dorothy’s memory are her children, Shirley (Jim) Jacobsen of Des Moines and Paul (Carol) Johnson of Newton; six grandchildren, Kirsten Jacobsen, Nathan Jacobsen, Melissa Kolpin, Jason (Jen) Adams, Lisa (Jason) Jackson and Job “J.J.” (Mina) Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ron (JoAnn) Becker of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald E. “Don” in 2005; and two brothers, Grant and Kenneth Becker.
