• Rachel A. Bauer, 16, of Newton, was eastbound on South 13th Avenue East at the intersection of East 12th Street South when her vehicle collided with a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office vehicle driven by David O. Gilchrist, 60, of Reasnor. Bauer was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign, and damage to her vehicle was estimated at $500. Damage to Gilchrist’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. No injuries were reported.

Silent Auction

The Newton Police Department will hold a silent auction of approximately 32 bicycles, a dremel tool with accessories, Cobra radar detector, Bushnell binoculars, assorted phone chargers, Maytag model 1939 Chevy car, Chevy Chevelle model car, decorative pins, vehicle tape player, 3 vacuum cleaners, a CD cleaner, wall cabinet and a ladies gold ring.

The silent auction is to be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 9:00 to 9:30 am in the back lot of the Police Department at 101 W. Fourth St. S. Auction property will be on display for viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 and prior to the Auction on Saturday.  All items sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. Cash and carry only. No checks. Proof of ownership is required to claim found property.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
