Party In Pink Zumbathon ‘shaking it’ in fight against breast cancer on Friday

Dancing. Laughter. Music. Fun.

The Newton YMCA gym will again be filled with hope as people join together for a night of Zumba to fight breast cancer.

The second annual Party In Pink Zumbathon is set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Newton YMCA, 1701 S. Eighth Ave. E.

Cost for the event is $10 per person at the door with all proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Newton YMCA Fitness Coordinator Natalie Wells said many fun activities are planned for the night.

“We are going to have a lot of fun,” Wells said. “We will have a few surprises. Some fun dancing with special guests. It will be a great evening for a great cause.”

Wells said the event is just one of thousands being hosted by Zumba instructors around the country to help raise awareness and raise funds.

According to Susan G. Komen For The Cure, it is estimated there will be 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed and 39,510 deaths caused by breast cancer in 2012 in American women.

“Every dollar helps in the fight,” Wells said.

The event is open to the public. Come dressed in Zumba attire - comfortable work out shoes and work out clothes, and ready to have fun.
