NHS alum Long shoots Monmouth record 79

Hannah Long’s standout freshman golf season at Monmouth College (Ill.) just keeps getting better.

Less than five months removed from her senior season at Newton Senior High School, the 2012 NHS graduate already has her name in the Scots’ record book. On Saturday, Long’s round of 79 at the Grinnell Invitational was a Monmouth school record. It led the Scots to a fourth-place finish, and was good enough to tie her for third place at the tournament.

“On the first nine holes, her ball-striking wasn’t quite spot-on, but man, she chipped and putted well,” said Newton girls golf coach Scott Enyart, who was in attendance along with Long’s friends and family. “Her ball-striking improved on her second nine and her chipping and putting continued to do really well. That’s the best I’ve seen her with her short game. We’re all very proud of her accomplishment.”
