Edith (White) Jones

Edith M. (White) Jones, 89, of Newton died on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton under the care of Skiff Hospice.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Metz Community Church, 3253 W. 62nd St. S. in Newton, officiated by Pastor Dave Rex. Following the service will be a luncheon at the church and burial will follow at the Hazelwood Cemetery, 120 First Ave. W., in Grinnell. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Jasper County would be appreciated.

Edith (Edie) was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Ira, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ada and Joseph White. She married Ernest Jones in 1972 and they operated the Singer store in Newton for many years. She also worked at Spurgeons, Montgomery Ward and Helma Coles. She was a talented seamstress and her family cherished all the special gifts she made for them.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Ernest; daughter, Judy (Tony) Schutty; and son, John Robson, all of Newton; stepchildren, Larry Jones of Cedar Rapids; Perry (Sue ) Jones of Ames; Tallie (Joe) Furrow of Grinnell; Diana (Tom) Zrudsky of Marion; Evelyn (Les) Beck of Cedar Rapids; Cindy (Dennis) Bates of Grinnell, and Debbie (Tim) Pefferman of Marshalltown; 21 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon (Robson) Hildebrand in 2011; her granddaughter, Michelle Robson in 1998; her parents; three sisters; two brothers; and two half brothers.
