• James L. Koon, 19, of Newton, was charged with violation of a no contact order at 12:41 p.m. Tuesday when officers found him at his residence at 1602 N. 2nd Ave. W. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Linda S. Koon, 61, of the same address, was charged with aiding and abetting for allowing James Koon to stay at that residence. She was released to appear.

• Richard J. Samuelson, 49, of Newton, was charged with operating while intoxicated (third offense) and second-degree burglary following an incident at the Mid-Iowa Motel at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Samuelson allegedly broke a door at the motel and attempted to assault the resident. Samuelson refused a sobriety test and the Datamaster test. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 15 and older.
